Singapore is a safe, efficient city-state. English is an official language, and with world-class safety and cleanliness and a punctual MRT network, it suits every travel style, from a first trip abroad to families, honeymooners and business travelers.

The infinity pool (hotel guests only) and night views at Marina Bay Sands, the Supertree light show at Gardens by the Bay, Universal Studios on Sentosa and shopping on Orchard Road: four days and three nights is enough to cover the essentials. Jewel at Changi Airport, with the world's largest indoor waterfall, can be visited even during a layover, which is one reason travelers choose Singapore as a stopover.

You can eat Michelin-listed dishes at hawker centers for SGD 4–8, and multi-ethnic culture is alive in Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street. Singapore is small, but there is a lot to experience.

Visa and entry requirements for Singapore

Whether you need a visa, how long you can stay and which pre-arrival forms apply all depend on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Check the official source below, and your own government's travel advice, before you book.

All travelers must submit the free SG Arrival Card online before arrival; you can complete it from three days before you arrive, and it takes about five minutes on a phone.

Marina Bay and Gardens by the Bay

Marina Bay is the heart of any Singapore trip. Non-guests can visit the observation deck of the 57th-floor SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) for SGD 28, while hotel guests can use the infinity pool. Spectra, a laser, water and light show over Marina Bay, runs twice every evening at 8 pm and 9 pm and is free to watch.

At Gardens by the Bay, the highlight is the Garden Rhapsody show (7:45 pm and 8:45 pm), when 18 Supertrees light up. Visiting the Cloud Forest (a cool tropical conservatory) and the Flower Dome together takes half a day, and admission to both is about SGD 53–62.

Sentosa: the entertainment island

Sentosa is a resort island linked to the main island by cable car or monorail.

Chinatown, Little India and Arab Street

Singapore's multi-ethnic culture is concentrated in three distinctive districts. In Chinatown you can combine temples with Maxwell Food Centre, a hawker center. In Little India, the Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple and the Mustafa Centre (24-hour shopping) offer something different. Arab Street has a unique atmosphere around the striking Sultan Mosque and its lanes of carpets and spices, and its narrow lanes of cafés and bars make it a popular Instagram spot.

FAQ

How many days do I need in Singapore?

Four days and three nights for the highlights, or six days and five nights to add Sentosa, the zoo and the Night Safari. As a city-state, travel times are short, so even a short trip is efficient.

Do I have to submit the SG Arrival Card?

Yes, it has been mandatory since 2023. Register for free on the ICA website from three days before arrival; save the QR code to show at immigration.

Is the Singapore Zoo worth it?

The Singapore Zoo (day), Night Safari (night) and River Wonders are next to each other. Each takes four to five hours, and a combo ticket (SGD 80–120) is good value.

Where should I exchange money?

Money changers at the Mustafa Centre (Little India) or People’s Park Complex (Chinatown) offer good rates. Airport and hotel rates are poor.

Where should I stay?

Choose by travel style: around Marina Bay (best views, higher cost), Orchard Road (easy shopping) or Chinatown (value and local atmosphere).
