Background and culture

Namsan Tower was completed in 1969 as a transmission tower and opened to the public in 1980. The cable car (Seoul Cable Car) opened in 1962 as Korea's first tourist cable car, and its station is a 10-minute walk from Myeongdong. The observatory offers a 360-degree panorama reaching Jongno, Gangnam and the Hangang River, and the "N Seoul Tower" letters change color every hour, making it a favorite photo spot. Some of the locks on the lock deck are regularly removed and displayed, and attaching locks may be restricted depending on the deck.
