See Hiroshima's Peace Memorial Park in the morning and leave the island for the next day. Individual adult admission to the Peace Memorial Museum is 200 yen, and the Atomic Bomb Dome, across the river, fits into the same morning.

Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima costs 300 yen for adults; check ferry times on the timetable. From the airport, take the limousine bus to the Bus Center and a streetcar to the Dome.

Split lunches between okonomiyaki in Shintenchi and anago-meshi (eel rice) on the island. The castle keep is closed, so on day three walk only the Ninomaru.

Visa and entry requirements for Japan

Whether you need a visa, how long you can stay and which pre-arrival forms apply all depend on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Check the official source below, and your own government's travel advice, before you book.

How do I split 2 nights or 4 nights?

Short answer: with 2 nights, the island the day after the park; with 4 nights, give the city one more day.

With 2 nights: day one is Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome, day two Miyajima, and the morning of day three is Hiroshima Castle's Ninomaru or departure. Don't put the city and the island in the same half day. Last entry to the museum is 30 minutes before closing, so on a late arrival see only the outdoor sites and save the museum for the next morning. The castle keep has been closed since 22 March 2026, so it is no reason for a third day; the Ninomaru is free. For Sanyo Shinkansen times and fares to Osaka, see the JR timetable.

With 4 nights: day one is the park only, day two Miyajima, day three the Ninomaru and Shukkeien, and day four rest near the station and depart. Shukkeien costs 350 yen for individual adults and is open 9:00 to 18:00 (last entry 17:30) from 16 March to 15 September, and 9:00 to 17:00 (last entry 16:30) from 16 September to 15 March; closed 29–31 December.

How do I get from the airport to the city?

Short answer: from HIJ, limousine bus and streetcar; from Kansai, the Sanyo Shinkansen.

According to Dive! Hiroshima, there is no direct rail link to Hiroshima Airport. The Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall says the limousine bus takes about 60 minutes to the Hiroshima Bus Center terminal; its barrier-free guide says about 55 to 60 minutes, then about 25 minutes on foot to the museum; and the English guide says about 50 minutes to the station's north exit and about 55 minutes to the Bus Center, with an adult fare of 1,370 yen. When the figures differ, go by the timetable on the day. From the Bus Center to the Atomic Bomb Dome is one stop (about 2 minutes) on streetcar line 2 or 6; from the station's south side, the same streetcars take about 20 minutes.

From Kansai Airport, take the Sanyo Shinkansen to Hiroshima Station (times and fares on the JR timetable). For Miyajima, take a streetcar or bus to Miyajimaguchi, then check the ferry timetable. Don't mix up oyster-farm tour boats with public ferries. On departure day, pick your limousine time first and fit the park before it.

Where should I plan meals?

Short answer: Shintenchi for a city lunch, anago-meshi for an island lunch, and manju as a snack from the station.

For okonomiyaki, the Shintenchi Plaza (5-13 Shintenchi, Naka-ku) has 25 restaurants on floors 2 to 4; phone 082-241-2210, about 3 minutes from Hatchobori and about 12 minutes from the Bus Center. Group menus start at 20 people. Anago-meshi on Miyajima traces back to Ueno, founded in Meiji 34 (1901); the island shops named in the city's feature are Wada and Fujitaya. Individual prices are not listed, so check each shop's menu. For oysters, check the day's menu at Miyajimaguchi.

Momiji manju are not a meal: a Yamadaya koshian manju is 140 yen, the retail price the city updated in March 2026, sold at station kiosks. The Atomic Bomb Dome is free and fits the same morning as the park. Shukkeien suits an afternoon on the same day as the castle Ninomaru. Staying near the station or Kamiyacho keeps your first streetcar ride short.

What should I check before I leave?

Short answer: entry requirements and the castle closure calendar.

Recheck Japan's entry requirements before you travel. The museum closes 30 and 31 December and for exhibition changes in mid-February, with last entry 30 minutes before closing. The shrine's closing time varies by month; from 1 March to 14 October it is open 6:30 to 18:00, and for other months check its page. The castle keep closure began on 22 March 2026; if older notices differ from the current homepage, follow the homepage.

Check Sanyo Shinkansen and airport limousine timetables again the night before you fly. If you fly direct from Hiroshima Airport, use your airline's timetable for flight times. Have small change for ticket offices that take cash at the museum, the shrine and Shukkeien, and check whether each accepts cards.

Before you leave Hiroshima

  • The park in the morning, Miyajima the next day
  • Check the airport limousine's "about 60 minutes" against the day's timetable
  • Check the castle keep closure and the museum's last entry
  • Recheck entry requirements on the official sources

Which plan suits my trip?

Short answer: the park in the morning, the island the next day, and limousine plus streetcar from the airport.
  • First time in Hiroshima: with 2 nights, split the park and the island; with 4 nights, add the castle and garden on day three.
  • Flying into HIJ: limousine bus then streetcar; from Kansai, the Sanyo Shinkansen.
  • Planning meals by area: Shintenchi in the city, anago-meshi on the island, and manju from the station.
